Bhante Saranapala, the Urban Buddhist Monk, was invited to join one of the UN panel sessions (UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Spirituality: Ethics and Values for the 2030 Agenda) on September 22, 2020

He presented "Canada: A Mindful and Kind Nation" with kindfulness principles and how every country in the world can be made a mindful and kind nation including the United Nations. You can read his full speech here.

Dr. Angela Greco is speaking on the benefits of systems thinking as a way to become a more kindful organization and impact productivity. Angela Greco is a scientist at the Strategic Analysis and Policy Department of TNO, the Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research, and a research affiliate at the University of Groningen. Prior to this position, she was a postdoctoral fellow in responsible innovation at the Ivey Business School at Western University. She obtained her PhD from the Center for Sustainable Entrepreneurship at the University of Groningen, Campus Fryslân Faculty, and her Master of Science in Civil Engineering from Delft University of Technology. Her work focuses on the role of organizations in sustainability transitions and in preventing and mitigating negative unintended consequences of society.

Kirsteen MacLeod, Yoga Teacher and Author, is speaking on her new book "In Praise of Retreat", which explores the solitary, reflective side of life and what it offers modern people. Bio: Kirsteen MacLeod is a yoga teacher and author based in Kingston, Ontario. Her new book, In Praise of Retreat, explores the solitary, reflective side of life and what it offers modern people. A native Glaswegian, Kirsteen has lived in Toronto and Brazil, places evoked in The Animal Game (short stories). Kirsteen divides her time between her home by the lake, and a riverside retreat cabin in the north woods.

Dr. Sashi Perera, Associate Professor, McMaster University, is speaking on when science meets kindness and mindfulness. Bio: Kanjana (Sashi) Perera is an Investigator in the Brain Health research program at PHRI, Assistant Professor, Medicine (neurology), McMaster University, and a stroke neurologist at Hamilton Health Sciences. Her main research focus is on secondary stroke prevention, cryptogenic stroke, and uncommon causes of stroke and the optimization of clinical care in this patient population.

The Urban Buddhist Monk, Bhante Saranapala, has been honoured with the “Canada 150 Medal and Sesquicentennial Community Award” from the Government of Canada. On behalf of the Government, Hon. Peter Fonseca, Member of Parliament for Mississauga East Cooksville, bestowed  the medal and award to Bhante Saranapala in recognition of his effort in "Making Canada a More Mindful and Kinder Nation" and in recognition of his accomplishments in our community by promoting a diverse and inclusive Canada ??. Bhante Saranapala is one of the 25 recipients of this medal and award in the Mississauga East Cooksville region. A big thank-you to Hon. Peter Fonseca MP and Government of Canada for this recognition with the Canada 150 medal and Sesquicentennial Community Award
